GLP-1 medication lawsuits

Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus, Trulicity and Mounjaro are prescribed to millions of people for type 2 diabetes and weight management. Lawsuits now pending in federal court allege that these medicines can cause serious stomach and bowel injuries, and a rare optic nerve condition, and that the makers did not adequately warn patients or doctors. Our legal team reviews these cases. If you used one of these medicines and were diagnosed with one of the conditions below, you can ask for a free case evaluation.

What the lawsuits allege

  • Gastrointestinal injuries (MDL No. 3094). Plaintiffs allege that GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines can cause gastroparesis, a condition in which the stomach empties too slowly, along with ileus, intestinal obstruction or pseudo-obstruction, and other gastrointestinal injuries.
  • NAION (MDL No. 3163). Plaintiffs allege that these medicines can cause non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), a condition in which blood flow to the optic nerve is reduced, which can cause sudden vision loss.
  • Warnings. The lawsuits allege the makers knew or should have known about these risks and did not adequately warn patients or their prescribing doctors.

Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly and Company deny these allegations. An MDL means many people have filed similar lawsuits. It does not mean any court has decided that these medicines caused anyone's injury.

Who may be eligible

As of October 2026, lawsuits allege that GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines can cause gastroparesis and other gastrointestinal injuries (MDL No. 3094) and the eye condition NAION (MDL No. 3163), and that the makers did not adequately warn about these risks. Both MDLs are pending before Judge Karen S. Marston in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. From September 14 to 18, 2026, Judge Marston held a Rule 702 evidentiary hearing on expert evidence for issues common to many of the gastrointestinal cases. The JPML created the separate NAION MDL in December 2025 and assigned it to the same judge.

What regulators have said

The FDA-approved prescribing information for these medicines, available on DailyMed, describes gastrointestinal adverse reactions. On June 6, 2025, the European Medicines Agency announced that its safety committee had concluded NAION is a very rare side effect of the semaglutide medicines Ozempic, Rybelsus and Wegovy, and recommended adding it to the European product information.

Status checked October 12, 2026. Both MDLs are listed as pending on the JPML report of pending MDLs dated October 1, 2026 (opens in a new tab). Court dockets change; each page shows the date it was last checked.

Questions

I still take one of these medicines. Should I stop?

Not without talking to your doctor. These medicines treat serious conditions, and stopping or changing a dose on your own can be harmful. A case evaluation doesn't require you to change your treatment.

Is this a class action?

No. In an MDL, each person keeps an individual lawsuit. The cases are grouped before one federal judge for pretrial work such as evidence exchange and rulings on expert testimony.

Is there a deadline?

Yes. Each state sets its own filing deadline, called a statute of limitations, and an MDL does not pause it. The deadline that applies to you depends on your state and the facts of your case, so it's best to ask early.

a few sentences is enough

A free case evaluation does not create an attorney-client relationship, does not file a claim and does not pause any deadline. We represent a client only after we both sign a written agreement.
