Not a law firm, and not legal advice

Important: please read

Legal Rights Now is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. The information on this site is general and may not apply to your situation. Using this site or submitting a form does not create an attorney-client relationship. Any attorney you choose to work with is independent of Legal Rights Now. This website may be considered attorney advertising in some states.

Laws and deadlines vary by state, and they change. Nothing on this site is a substitute for advice from a lawyer who knows the facts of your situation. For advice about your situation, talk to a licensed attorney in your state.

If cost is a concern, free legal help may be available through legal aid. Legal aid organizations give free civil legal help to people with low incomes. You can find one near you at LawHelp.org (opens in a new tab) or through the Legal Services Corporation's legal aid search (opens in a new tab).

The information on this site

We work to keep our guides accurate and we cite official sources, but the law changes and we can't promise that every page is complete or current at the moment you read it. Information on the site is provided for general educational purposes. Don't rely on it as a substitute for advice about your own situation, and check deadlines with a licensed attorney in your state.

4

Free case review requests

  • No fee. There is no fee to request a case review.
  • What happens. Your request comes to Legal Rights Now so we can follow up with you about it. If your situation fits an area where independent attorneys review cases, we will ask your permission before sharing your details with an attorney.
  • No promises. We can't promise that an attorney will review or take your case, or that you'll get any particular result.
  • Deadlines keep running. Sending a request doesn't file a claim, start a lawsuit, or pause or extend any deadline.
  • Accurate information. Please give truthful, accurate information. Only send information about another person if you have their permission or the legal authority to act for them.
  • Age. You must be at least 18 to send a request. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian can send one for you.
5

Independent attorneys

Any attorney you speak with or hire is independent of Legal Rights Now. We don't supervise or control an attorney's advice or work. Whether to take a case, and on what terms, is up to you and the attorney, and any agreement, including about fees, is between you and that attorney.

6

Text messages

Text messages from Legal Rights Now are optional and are sent only if you tick a consent box on our case review form. Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Consent is not required to buy any product or service. Our SMS Terms are part of these Terms.

7

Your privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It's part of these Terms.

8

No Sharing, Selling, or Renting of Personal Information

Legal Rights Now respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing or promotional purposes.

SMS Consent and Mobile Information: No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent will not be shared, sold, rented, or disclosed to any third parties or affiliates for their own marketing purposes.

We may disclose information to trusted service providers solely as necessary to operate our services, deliver requested communications, or comply with applicable legal requirements. These providers are required to protect your information and are prohibited from using it for independent marketing purposes.

9

Using the site

You agree not to:

  • Use the site for anything unlawful, or to send false, misleading or harassing information
  • Send spam, or use automated tools to submit forms
  • Copy large parts of the site with automated tools, or overload or interfere with the site or its security
  • Pretend to be someone else, or misrepresent your connection to anyone

We may block access or remove submissions that break these rules.

10

Content and ownership

The text, design, graphics and other content on the site belong to Legal Rights Now or are used with permission or under license. You may view, print and share pages for your own personal, non-commercial use, as long as you don't change them and you keep any notices. Laws, regulations and government publications we link to are public, and their sources are named on each page.

11

The site links to government agencies, courts, legal aid organizations and other websites we don't control. We aren't responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices. A link isn't an endorsement of anyone's services.

13

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Legal Rights Now will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of the site, your reliance on its content, or the acts or advice of any attorney or third party. Some places don't allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you.

14

Your responsibility

If you misuse the site or break these Terms, you agree to be responsible for the claims, losses and costs that result, to the extent the law allows.

15

Governing law and venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Iowa, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute relating to these Terms or the site will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Linn County, Iowa, and you agree to the jurisdiction of those courts.

16

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll post the new version here and change the date at the top. Using the site after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

17

General

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our not enforcing a part of these Terms isn't a waiver of it. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and SMS Terms, are the whole agreement between you and Legal Rights Now about the site.
